Prinz Eugen was a German WWII heavy cruiser that survived the war after many close run adventures. She was taken by the Americans when the war ended and was placed with a number of other vessels in the immediate area of a test atomic bomb explosion. It was a pity that such a fine ship should survive so much and perish in an experiment. Still, the spoils of war, one must suppose.
