Moyra Melons Roger Me Earrings!

Moyra Melons was not pleased with her husband, Roger. She had got a small minicab firm up and running rather well. Roger was helping her, but his knowledge of radio use was poor. This had been leading to confusion. Moyra decided to call him into the office and have a few words.

As he came through the door, she asked him to lock it.

“I don’t think anyone will be coming back yet, but I would prefer to talk about this without unexpected interruption,” Moyra added.

“Oh,” replied Roger. Her husband raised an eyebrow wondering what it was all about. He sat down in the chair before her desk and radio equipment.

He cleared his throat and then looked at his wife, Moyra. “What’s this all about then?”

Moyra stared straight back at him and asked. “Why can’t you roger me?”

Roger coughed and was taken by surprise. He quickly looked out of the window and noted the emptiness of the streets. He came over in a hot flush and replied. “Well I do,” he replied. “But surely you don’t mean here?

Moyra looked astonished and then got cross. “I mean it here at all times. All the other blokes do. Why can’t you? Am I wearing the wrong earrings? Tell me? Give me a clue?" She added sarcastically.

“What!” retorted Roger? He was quite flabbergasted.

Moyra continued. “When you use the blooming radio and you have finished what you are saying, you say ‘roger.’ It means over to me. Have you not heard me saying, “Is that a rog, Roger?”

“Oh,” replied Roger feeling a little relieved with this new knowledge. He had definitely got crossed wires for a moment. “I can assure you it is nothing to do with your wonderful earrings.”

Moyra went on. “I don’t want to keep saying the same old thing.”

“The same old thing?” muttered Roger who was only just beginning to recover from his initial shock.

“Yes,” replied Moyra as she burst into a little chant.

“No more:

Is that a rog - Roger?
Do the rog – Roger,
Do the rog.

He looked confused and raised an eyebrow again. “Oh well, yes. What have you been saying then?” He grinned. “Can you run that one passed me again please?”

Moyra repeated:

Is that a rog – Roger?
Do the rog – Roger
Do the rog.”

A great weight seemed to fall from Roger. “Oh well, I’m sure I can remember to roger you, Moyra. I was a little confused at first. But I get the picture now.”

“How could you get confused about making sure you roger me?” asked Moyra. “You are no good if you can’t roger me.”

Her husband stood up and dropped the office blinds. The door was locked and he decided he might need a little more privacy to show Moyra the substance of his confusion. About making sure he would roger her. There was an interlude in which the reader must adhere to the married couple’s privacy, but I would imagine one might get the idea. Moyra certainly did.

Afterwards, the lady and her sparkling earrings understood. Moyra had a windswept look and she suspected her husband might be back the next day for a further telling off. I think under the same circumstances, I might pretend to be a slow learner. On the radio front and saying 'Roger' all the time, that is. How about you?

Moyra Melons Earrings Can't Be Understated.

No amount of good retro British understatement can hide the effect of Moyra Melons' earrings. No one could doubt how noticeable such bling is. I do not mean to come across as shallow. Yet for some reason, I do feel slightly One-dimensional against the power of such feminine attraction.

It makes a bloke realise what it is like to be male. How sensitive and vulnerable we are before such fine earrings.

Ladies talk about it being a man's world, but what chance does any red-blooded man stand against a pair of earrings like this?

I mean they are truly outstanding earings. I can't think of a pair of outstanding things that could be more noticeable. Could you?

This takes one's mind off of the fake news my country peddles. The economic truths put up front while omitting very obvious issues. This is done by playing down or pussyfooting around subjects and focusing on things of less importance. Our nation is false fed economic truths.

Don't be blinded by economic truth!

Sandringham Game and Country Fair with Retro Cars.

Today, my wife and I went to the Sandringham Game and Country Fair. It has been advertised for weeks on bill boards along country roads here, there and everywhere in the Fenland. It is only a short distance across the county border and in Norfolk. We missed it last year and Carole (my wife) has been going on and on that she did not want to miss it this year.

So, with a sense of purpose, we got our things together and trundled off in the car towards Sandringham. The event was grander than I expected. There were several arenas with Shire horses, pony and trap manoeuvres, horse drawn boarding events, Birds of Prey, sheep dog trials, clay pigeon shooting archery and many more things too.

There were well over 200 various stalls selling a variety of things from craft work, country clothing and so many more things too. I had dinner of rolled pork and chips while my wife went for some noodles. It was a most pleasant way to spend the Saturday afternoon. There was so much to see I have decided to break up the photos for several blogs.

One section that interested me was the retro vintage British cars.

Would Ladies Tell Their Husbands Not to Wear These Awful Knee Pads?

That chap's knee pads are a real fashion failure. I know because the lady in the front of the photo is laughing at him. You can see it written all over her amused and giggling face. Most women would assume his wife might drop a hint, but she is wearing very dark shades. Perhaps, she has not noticed either?

Who Needs Men? by Edmund Cooper (My Goodreads Review)

Who Needs Men?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Edmund Cooper does love to invent Post Apocalyptic worlds of Britain in most of his stories. This is one of my favourite E.C. novels along with All Fools Day.

According to a magazine article, I read about him just prior to his death, he said he managed to upset a few feminists with this story. This dystopian Britain of the future is one of Females ruling the world and the few men left alive are hunted in the Highlands.

It's all pulp sci-fi and I read it back in the late 70s. It's rather cheesy but hey! I was a sixteen year old just going to work at the time. If Ed Cooper was trying to have a go at feminists and I think he probably was, then it was very exaggerated. However, the story was rather good and I suppose I must be a little weird for liking it so. Well worth reading if you enjoy dystopian style stories.

Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell (My Goodreads Review)

Homage to CataloniaHomage to Catalonia by George Orwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

George Orwell is an enigma to me - a very great one. I just get engrossed in anything he has written. He has the ability to be depressing, defeatist, morose - yet I can't put down anything he writes. I've never known anyone as compelling as this man was. This is another tale of his soul-searching exploits during the Spanish Civil War.

I think this is the pinnacle of his lifetime endeavour and real sacrifice for an alternative way of life via socialism. This is the journey, through his remarkable life, where I believe he realised equality can't work, especially trying to fight in the anarchist's brigade during this terrible civil war in Spain.

After this came Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Orwell's works are a stage through the journey of his deep thinking life. Sometimes via essays, biographical or fiction. This man is truly brilliant and you can see the development of his thinking if you read his publications in order. Homage to Catalonia is a very important book - a very important book indeed. I think it was the turning point in George Orwell's lifelong search for something better. I think he realised that he would never find an answer for Utopia after this experience and became resigned to why he could never find the answer with his two following stories - Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four.
