A Dieselpunk Soviet Union.

I was chatting with someone about Steampunk and Dieselpunk. They are often art concepts of people of the past imagining these types of art deco worlds of the future. A future that might have been or a future that never came to be.

Often the artist is of today imagining things from a past perspective point.

I rather like this upbeat image of a prosperous Soviet Union society. The futurist 1930s where there was no Starlin etc. Here is a splendid look of a more perfect Soviet Union than we might expect. A world where the Soviet Union is prosperous on an encouraging panoramic urban level. Better perhaps, than any of the Socialist Rupubilics' actually was.

1. Could such a socialist dream have been realised?

2. What would have needed to happen besides no oncoming World War Two?

3. Perhaps in this world, the democracies became urban decaying crime-ridden areas and the East was prosperous?

4. Could such a thing ever have happened?

Science Fiction Lovers Indulge This Thought.

Imagine, if you will, how it would have been to be a Victorian sailor from retro British times of 1898. You are on board HMS Thunder Child and the ship is picking up strange semaphore messages from the shore stations. Invaders from Mars are striding about and destroying the entire fabric of our nation. Would you believe such outrages things? The entire ship would be alive with speculation and disbelief. These sailors were destined to see three Martian fighting machines and confront the colossal edifices in battle.

Aboard H.M.S. Thunder Child, the crew are blissfully unaware of the savage terror. Only the new Captain knows and only upon the journey, at sea, do the crew begin to learn the unbelievable news from semaphore stations.

War of the Worlds pastiche

Britain in 1898.

The Martians really came and this is the alternative history of that dreadful event. Join the crew of HMS Thunder Child as she prepares to embark upon her doomed voyage, before her demise and courageous battle with three Martian tripod fighting machines at the River Blackwater in the county of Essex, England, UK.

Captain McIntosh and his brave crew can hardly believe the semaphore messages sent from the shore stations. The news is so uncanny and fantastic that none can accept the stories of Martians falling from space. All hands of HMS Thunder Child must keep a dreadful appointment with destiny as they cruise towards the dire outcome awaiting them.

The War of the Worlds first terrified audiences in book form in 1898, as the first-person narrative tells us the adventures of an unnamed protagonist and his brother as Martians invade Earth. But there were other characters with stories to tell.

God I'm So Shallow! (But it feels great!)

Feminists might say I'm shallow, but I don't care one little bit. I think the Gothic look on ladies is mind blowing. God! I am shallow, but I like it. 

Every one of these ladies looks mind bogglingly wonderful. Very feminine and most alluring. I wish I could say they were all my ex-girlfriends, but I don't think the readers would believe me.

The Retro Steampunk Ironman

I loved this wonderful retro/steampunk Marvel Ironman from K.B. Burnfield - Google+ http://buff.ly/2tcEkGI I think the cool 1930s Retro USA look is smashing. A time when the glamour of America was captivating the world. It's strange how certain periods of time have a signature art that leaves the observer knowing he or she is in the past and experiencing an era before they were born.

This image has it all on the nostalgia front. A frozen time that will live forever in the eternity of our minds.

The Lord of the Rings (My Goodreads Review)

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this back in 1979 when I was eighteen and I could not put the trilogy down. I absolutely loved this story and became totally engrossed in the wonderful and dangerous world of Middle Earth. I missed my stop on the train several times when reading, during my commute, to and from London. I found corners during my break times to read.

I can honestly say, that this was a wonderful story that made me sad when I got to the end of it all. Sad because I would leave this wonderful fantasy world. In my view, the best ever fantasy saga of all time. It was also great to have read it as an impressionable naive eighteen year old kid. Being spellbound was more rewarding at that young age. This story has a very special place in my heart as I’m sure it does for so many other people too.
