South Korean scientists have invented non-toxic salmonella to carry destructive proteins to cancer cells. These destructive proteins kill only cancer cells leaving good tissue undamaged. This is a further and exciting new development. The French Nanobiotix company used the notion of nanites attacking the cancer cells, but this South Korean innovation goes another step further. This new development uses live bacteria (Non-toxic salmonella) to home in on cancer cells and once the bacteria is linked to the malignant cell; the proteins that have hitched a ride on board begin to attack the harmful cells. Let's be honest, the leading colonial powers of the time were Britain, France, Russia, Germany, Holland, Portugal, and Spain. All old imperial powers that occupied conquered territories in Asia. They were all about Japan.
Perhaps Japan realised she had to swim with the big imperial powers of the time - a time that was coming to an end, yet none realised this was to be. All these nations believed the way forward was to occupy other less powerful nations and exploit their natural resources.
Although I read next to no fiction these days, this caught my attention as an interesting example of contemporary megatexts. Author +colin powell has taken a small part of the plot of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds and turned it into a fully-fledged naval battle story.
Groupie Girl was made in the 1970s and follows the exploits of a bored young girl looking for adventure and wishing to escape the humdrum life of a suburban British town. She elects to follow a touring two a penny rock band. The acting is a real pile of pants, but accidentally works in a cheap way.
The film might have been made as a soft core sex flick. The type that was doing the rounds in the 60s and 70s. However, this B-movie doesn't do that. Perhaps it is more by accident then design, but it shows the low life antics of a bunch of tin pot musicians trying to make the big time. The groupie who follows them is used and abused by each band member over a course of time - discarded by one then going with another.
It is very dismal and dark and not the expected naughty postcard type of humorous fun that one might expect from the Brit era's silly sex film industry. The movie has a lot wrong with it, but I would still say its worth a watch because this is definitely not saucy fun. It's rather harsh in its portrayal of a group of youngster chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but somehow they are lost along the way. The girl portraying the groupie is a little known actress called Esme Johns and there is nothing on the web to say she ever featured in other movies or what she does today. She made this flick and then disappeared from view.
It is supposed to have been co written from the experiences and knowledge of a proper groupie. I don't think the B-flick moved any mountains, but it is beginning to get a cult status with several people downloading the movie onto YouTube. Above is such a copy from a YouTuber.
The UK's main battle tank is the Challenger II. It has been modernised with newer technology from the Challenger I. These improvements are in firepower, crew protection and mobility, which equips the tank better for various terrains and climates of modern day warfare. This tank ranks high among various good world designs.
The British Challenger has been proved in combat conditions and proved well in combat conditions, although the quality of the enemy opposition could be questioned. However, the Challenger performance in the harsh desert environment did exceed 90% which is bordering outstanding. The accuracy of the tank's heavy firepower was devastating to the enemy and proved the Challengers worth in battle. These tanks destroyed around 300 enemy tanks without loss.
The Challenger II was revised from the Challenger I because in competitions the British tank had not performed well up against other nation's advanced tanks. The British pulled out of the competitions and began to focus upon modernising the tank for better performances. This is generally agreed to have been a great step forward for the Challenger tank with many arguing that the tank is better equipped for battle conditions as opposed to what competition might show.
Although no Challenger tank has been lost in combat yet, two have been hit by insurgent attacks with RPG's. One British soldier inside a Challenger was injured. His foot was blown off when the armoured shielding was pierced. The fact that the vehicles were not destroyed is testament to the durability of the tank still, yet it did cause some ripples of decent, which seems strange. The tank did resist attacks by RPG and these are sophisticated weapons designed to destroys tanks.
