Retro Motor Bikes at Sandringham Country Fair.

Another of the delightful sites at the Sandringham Country Fair was a small selection of vintage motorbikes. I’m not too knowledgeable on motorbikes but I’m clued up enough to know that these are vintage vehicles and are rare in this day and age. Then I saw a little slice of Retro Brit history.

One of the bikes was a desert sandy colour. It also had emblems of the Desert Rat upon the tank. I’m assuming this is a restored dispatch bike from the Eighth Army. This force was nicknamed Desert Rats and fought against Rommel’s Africa Korps during the North African Campaign of WWII. The motorbike was for sale. I'm guessing the price tag was a little more than its original Retro British price of the war years.

Porsche Cars for the Norfolk Boys in Blue.

I was surprised, to say the least when I saw a fabulous looking Porsche car with Norfolk County Constabulary emblazoned on such a fine vehicle built for speed. Speeds well in excess of our national speed limits.

I thought to myself. “Maybe traffic cops are using them. Perhaps they need to chase lawbreakers speeding on the motorways?”

However, I had never seen our police using such a car. I’ve seen the police in Abu Dhabi. They drive police cars that are Ferrari. But then cars in that country do tend to be out of the norm.

I wandered over to the policeman standing behind the vehicle. He had a big smile on his face as I photographed the car and started to look around it. On the bonnet was the Norfolk County Constabulary emblem. No mistaking.

I looked at the smiling policeman. He was obviously the copper who got to drive the vehicle. He obviously knew I was going to ask questions.

“Do you use them for motorway offences, like speeding?” I asked.

He chuckled and replied. “No, we do not use them at all. This is just a promotion stunt. I wish we did.”

I laughed at my naivety. “Oh, I thought I had not seen you guys driving one of these. I thought maybe you were about to.”

Again he said. “We could only wish.”

Grinning at my assumption, I carried on looking around the Sandringham Craft Fair for some of the more retro British things of the countryside's attractions.

Shire Horses at Sandringham Game and Country Fair.

Today, my wife and I went to the Sandringham Game and Country Fair. It has been advertised for weeks on bill boards along country roads here, there and everywhere in the Fenland. It is only a short distance across the county border and in Norfolk. We missed it last year and Carole (my wife) has been going on and on that she did not want to miss it this year.

So, with a sense of purpose, we got our things together and trundled off in the car towards Sandringham. The event was grander than I expected. There were several arenas with Shire horses, pony and trap manoeuvres, horse drawn boarding events, Birds of Prey, sheep dog trials, clay pigeon shooting archery and many more things too.

There were well over 200 various stalls selling a variety of things from craft work, country clothing and so many more things too. I had dinner of rolled pork and chips while my wife went for some noodles. It was a most pleasant way to spend the Saturday afternoon. There was so much to see I have decided to break up the photos for several blogs.

The Shire horses were absolutely wonderful creatures. An absolute delight to see.

My first flicker of interest came from the various steam engine vehicles that were on display. Some fabulous retro machines from the bygone days of steam.
