This song reminds me of a place in Hornchurch, Essex, UK. In the early and mid seventies, we would go to a place called the Cottage Homes, where a number of orphans and other kids, separated from parents, lived. Some of them went to my school called Bush Elms. (later Harrow Lodge) Every Wednesday, the Cottage Homes had a small disco for the young kids to go to. It was dark inside with rolling lights that made patterns and bubbles circle about the walls - a cheesy seventies groovy effect.
It was only a youngsters lemonade and crisps disco but this song, by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, reminds me of that place. Another little memory from the bygone world of the 1970s when we were all dipping our toes into the coming of age time that lay ahead.
