Was this the time of the Quarry Men or the Silver Beatles when Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best were in the band? This was before Ringo Star joined the group.
Stuart Sutcliffe (on the right in photograph) left the band, in Germany. He is often referred to as the fifth member of the Beatles. He left to pursue his interest in art and has some credibility for abstract expressionism. Some of his paintings have been displayed. He died in Hamburg, Germany aged just 21 of a brain aneurysm, while studying at a German art collage.
Also on the left of the picture is Pete Best who was the original drummer. He was dismissed from the Beatles in 1962 when Brian Epstein encouraged the others to allow Ringo Star into the group as the drummer. This was to the cost of Pete Best's membership of the band. He is regarded as the Beatle that never was. Perhaps this is cruel to Pete Best because every fan knows of him. He just never got to enjoy the celebrity that the others did.
