Moyra Melons Earrings Can't Be Understated.

No amount of good retro British understatement can hide the effect of Moyra Melons' earrings. No one could doubt how noticeable such bling is. I do not mean to come across as shallow. Yet for some reason, I do feel slightly One-dimensional against the power of such feminine attraction.

It makes a bloke realise what it is like to be male. How sensitive and vulnerable we are before such fine earrings.

Ladies talk about it being a man's world, but what chance does any red-blooded man stand against a pair of earrings like this?

I mean they are truly outstanding earings. I can't think of a pair of outstanding things that could be more noticeable. Could you?

This takes one's mind off of the fake news my country peddles. The economic truths put up front while omitting very obvious issues. This is done by playing down or pussyfooting around subjects and focusing on things of less importance. Our nation is false fed economic truths.

Don't be blinded by economic truth!

When Did They Stop Selling This?

What ever happened to the Bar of Six chocolate bar? I can remember the old retro British adverts on the tv for this Cadbury brand. I remember them being sold in the shops. They are prominent in my mind's eye among the selection of various chocolate bars that were sold in newsagents and sweet shops back then in the day. Then I realised that this chocolate bar is no longer sold in our shops anymore. At least I've not seen one in ages. When did it go? I'm sure they have not been sold for a number of years.

I Did not Like This.

I could not stand the stuff! However, everyone else about me loved it. I'm still not a fan. Yet everyone else is. These bottles stood on the tables of all cafes next Tomato sauce and other condiments. They probably still do today, but the labels were more striking back then.

I like the price in old money, before decimalization of 1971. The most expensive at five and a half pennies old money is between two pence and two and a half pence decimal money we use today. It gives an idea of how prices have changed, just since the 1960s.

Swallows and Amazons 2016 Movie is a Fun Film.

I was flicking through my Amazon Prime on the TV the other day looking at some of the new download movies. I always like British orientated movies. Being a Brit, I'm a little biased on that front. However, that does not mean that I don't enjoy other nation's movies. I do.

On this day, I was looking for something retro and British. Something from the good old days. Then to my delight Swallows and Amazons came up. It is a famous old retro Brit story, but I had never got around to reading or watching the older presentations of this story on TV before. So with great aplomb, I decided it was time to strike this story off of my bucket list.

It is set in 1935 when a group of four children are about to go on their summer vacation to the Lake District of England's Cumbria county. There are four children all brothers and sisters and two of each. (Boys and Girls)

Their father is a naval officer and is away at sea and that is all we know of the children's Dad. Their Mother, who is in charge of the holiday venture, is Scottish and from the Highlands. She has some understanding of what a wonderful place the Lake district can be for the children.

The story becomes exciting straight away when the children witness a daring encounter between two groups of secret agent spies. A chase and an outrageous getaway upon the moving steam train going to the Lake District.

Once established in the idyllic Lake District, the children get their boat called Swallows and head for an island in the middle of the lake. In their imagination, they are pirates with treasure and the island in the lake is their secret hideout.

However, there is another group of pirate fantasising children called Amazons. From here on the former secret agents from the train mix the real adult world up with their childish pirate world and a grand adventure begins. Splendid stuff and loved the 1930s feel of the entire movie. Very enjoyable and well worth watching.

The Beatles - the fab four going for it in a colour 1965 clip.

This takes me back to my child hood memories. Groups like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and many, many, more. The nostalgic world of my Retro Brit sixties memory. Odd little things allow me to reach back to those times and this clip is a kind memory of Britain in the sixties.

The Skids - Retro British New Wave 1970s

I remember when these bands were coming out two a penny when I left school in 1977. It was a fun few years up to the early eighties when the bands seemed to develop and change. It was a sort of metamorphosis of Brit Rock and was very enjoyable at the time. It was a sort of punk rock/new wave time that went on to develop into new versions of SKA, Reggie, New Romantics and others.

HMS Monitor - A World War I warship is to be turned into a visitor attraction

Taken from Newspaper clipping

WWI HMS Monitor M33 to become Portsmouth tourist attraction

A World War I warship is to be turned into a visitor attraction after winning Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) backing. The £1.79m grant will see the interior of HMS Monitor M33, a coastal bombardment vessel which served in the Gallipoli campaign, refurbished. The work on the ship, built in 1915, will be done at Portsmouth’s National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN).

Minister for Tourism Hugh Robertson said the vessel provided a “tangible and compelling” link to WWI. The ship initially saw action during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915, supporting allied troops attempting to land on the coast of Turkey. The 180 ft (55m) ship’s role was to provide cover for troops landing on beaches using a pair of 125mm guns on board. It returned to Portsmouth Harbour after being involved in the Russian Civil War in 1919 and was acquired by Hampshire County Council in 1990.

The NMRN’s Professor Dominic Tweddle said the institution, where the vessel has been held since it ceased being seaworthy, was “absolutely thrilled”. “We’ve long seen M33 as both culturally and historically important, and this symbolises the start of a new era for her.” The restoration work, funded by the HLF alongside a £250,000 grant from the county council, will see the rusting interior turned into a visitor attraction, which will illustrate what life was life for sailors on board.

Extra-terrestrial Life Discovered in Earth's Stratosphere.

Extra-terrestrial life has been discovered by Brit students at Sheffield University. Not bug eyed green monsters but microscopic from meteor showers. The scientific investigators have isolated the microbes from weather balloons high in the stratosphere and have quarantined them from infection by Earth microbes. They seem convinced the micro-organisms are alien and from meteor showers that broke up upon hitting Earth atmosphere.

My Favorite Year 1979

I did not realise how time flew by until an old friend gave me some photos from 1979 and 1980. It seems like yesterday, but it was thirty four years ago. I'm flabbergasted at the way I've changed. Great memories from days gone by.

Tom Jones and Janis Joplin 1969

This retro clip is from 1969 and the late Janis Joplin sings with Tom Jones in this great clip. The dynamic duo in the very real sense of the word. Smashing blast from the swinging sixties past.

The Bubble World we Feel Secure Within?

Meteor Crashes in Russia while travellers in a vehicle film from the motorway. It is awesome, scary and worrying, because what if a bigger one comes along and does the dinosaur number on mankind. It makes one stop and think about all the silly little human squabbles we have with one another. They all pale to triviality when one thinks of things like this. Things outside of our little bubble world that can gate crash with nothing we can do about it.

EU - UK Withdrawal Method not Self-Indulgent when Political Classes try to keep a sheaf on it.

Tories press on with EU poll plans

There has to be a referendum for the UK on the EU. Mr Cable is reported by a local newspaper below in support of the EU. He says that the UK's desire for EU withdrawal is wrong. He uses words like reckless and self-indulgent. The political classes of this nation have been reckless and self-indulgent by forcing political and un-democratic accountability upon people by un-elected bodies passing rules upon our nation. Withdrawal is not self-indulgent when the political classes have been keeping a sheaf over it for decades.

Liberal Democrat Business Secretary Vince Cable will today brand advocates of EU withdrawal "self-indulgent and reckless", as he warns that a British pull-out would mean an "exodus" of international firms from the UK and the loss of thousands of jobs.

No "serious friend of British business" would call for a break-up of Britain's relations with the EU, Mr Cable will tell a business conference in Birmingham in a scathing response to growing clamour for withdrawal.

Amid Conservative calls for legislation on an in/out referendum on UK membership, Mr Cable will warn the Liberal Democrats' coalition partners not to over-react to the successes of the UK Independence Party in this month's council elections.

"The Liberal Democrat manifesto in 2010 promised we would put Britain at the heart of Europe in pursuit of national opportunity, security and prosperity - and we will continue to push for this in Government," he will tell the British-American Business Council. "It is simply self-indulgent and reckless for parties or individuals to risk so much in order to address one concern raised in a council election by just 7% of the electorate."

Lib Dem Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg told MPs on Wednesday that it was a matter of "when not if" the UK holds a referendum on EU membership, and Mr Cable will himself on Thursday acknowledge that developments in the eurozone will "necessitate in due course a referendum on any substantial change in constitutional arrangements".

But he will urge proponents of withdrawal, such as Conservative former chancellor Lord Lawson, not to exaggerate the costs to the UK of EU membership or underplay the potential damage departure could inflict on British business.

The UK is currently the "favourite destination" for non-EU firms setting up European HQs, hosting more than Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands combined, Mr Cable will say. If Britain quit the EU, he will warn, "we could reasonably expect an exodus of the non-EU firms headquartered in this country, precisely because they regard the UK as the gateway to Europe... These companies in Japan, China, the USA and elsewhere whom we are currently trying to attract to the UK will - quite reasonably - think again if they believe we are planning to leave the EU."

Many of the thousands of foreign-owned financial sector companies in the City "would question the value of a UK location were it to cut itself adrift", he will add. Despite the growth of emerging economies like China, India and Brazil, the EU is likely to remain Britain's most important market "for another couple of decades", offering many growth opportunities even during the current problems in the eurozone, Mr Cable will say.
Eurosceptics who argue that Britain should be focusing on trade with the BRIC nations rather than Europe need a "reality check", as expanding exports to these markets is "in no way inhibited by membership of the EU". And while half of British exports go to the EU, supporting one in 10 UK jobs, China accounts for less than 2.5% of exports, India and Russia below 2% each and Brazil under 1%.

It is "far from obvious" that on its own, the UK could strike the kind of free-trade agreements currently under discussion between the EU and the US, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore and countries in South-East Asia and South America, he will warn.

Big Girls Don't Cry - The Four Seasons

These all remind me of those little times when I could raid the radiogram and go through the records. It was great playing all the old 45s that my Mother and Father were always accumulating.

Mother Cat - Lilly's Little Kittens New to the World

Mother Cat Lilly with five little kittens just four hours old

Yesterday our little cat, Lilly became a mother of five little kittens. She is on the Retro Brit Blog from last year when we got her as a kitten. Now a year later she is a proud little mum purring away under the bed with five little bundles of fur and paws. Lilly is a small cat and we were very surprised that she had five kittens because even though they are very tiny and cute; the mind boggles at the thought of them being inside her little stomach. All five kittens and Mother Lilly seem to be doing very well.

Have You Seen British Retro T.V. Series - Thriller

The British TV series called Thriller was on Saturday evenings from 1973 to 1976. I remember each week was a different type of story lasting about 60 minutes. The stories were set in England in the more affluent areas of society and usually involved a murder mystery with a strange twist. It was so popular that there were six series and it managed to attract an audience in the U.S.A. which is always a good sign for a lucrative future. This is why it was able to produce so many different plots. Because of the U.S. appeal the British producers began to employ at least one U.S. actor or actress to appeal to the American audience too.

Some of the stories were very gripping and my favourite was series 3 thriller episode called ‘I’m the Girl He Wants to Kill.’ In this story a young lady is perused by a serial murderer into an office block. The security guard is about to shut the office block down as all have gone home. However, our demented killer takes control and has his own lock in. His intended victim is a lady who is forced to play a deadly game of cat and mouse while the killer stalks and hunts her. It had me on the edge of my seat at the time, but I suppose it is very tame now.

A clip from: I'm the Girl he Wants to Kill - British TV series called Thriller

Over the six seasons, thriller enjoyed good t.v. ratings in UK and USA. In all there were around 43 episodes and even when viewed now; I can see how different Britain has become from the retro 70s decade.
