The Death of Grass by John Christopher

The Death of Grass

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The ultimate dystopian world novel. It was written and set in Britain during the 1950s so it has a retro flavour about it. All forms of grass are becoming infected by the Chung Li virus and gradually this virus is spreading around the world. Grass is dying - all forms. Even wheat, barley and other life essential crops. Starvation and mayhem ensue. As society breaks down in Britain, one family man with his wife and children decides to go North to the Lake District where his brother has a farm that is easily defendable in a valley. The produce is pigs and sugar beat. The problem is getting there when the government is restricting movement and desperate gangs will do anything to survive.

A good engrossing dystopian sci-fi novel. Well worth reading.
