Chris Foss was born in Devon, England, UK in 1946. He is well known for his wonderful futuristic artwork that is often seen on the front of science fiction novels. These were usually colourful pictures of spaceships, machines or cities.
The small picture of the space craft approaching futuristic buildings was on the front cover of a book called Slan by A.E. van Vogt. It was one of the first sci/fi novels I bought when I left school and started work in 1977. I bought the book because I remember being drawn to the picture. I wanted to live in these space age worlds.
